Maintaining Beggarwood Park for the Benefit of Wildlife and the Community
Beggarwood Wildlife Group is a community based voluntary organisation which meets once a month to carry out a range of maintenance tasks at the Local Nature Reserve. We typically meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 9am at the Cafe in the Park, Beggarwood. Each work party lasts for around 3 hours and concludes with a well earned coffee and cake generously provided by the Holly Blue pub.
We are a social group with the main aim of helping to maintain the natural beauty of the site whilst having fun. The group works throughout the year based on seasonal requirements. Tasks include coppicing, dead hedging, removal of tree guards, trench clearing, planting and collecting seeds and litter picking to name a few. Tools and instruction will be provided.
Beggarwood Park is designated as a Local Nature Reserve due to the extensive wildlife diversity, myriad of wildflowers, vast open grassland and mature woodland copses. In 2023 it was also presented with the prestigious Green Flag Award, which is an internationally recognised standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces.
We are always open to new members
“It has been brilliant to get to know other members of the group, have some fun and improve the nature reserve”
