After the success of the recent litter pick, the team arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed for the March working party and were met not only with bright sunshine, but also a new recruit in the shape of Andy who had himself helped at the said litter pick.
Andy proved to be a natural when it came to forming stakes for the dead hedge which was expanding rapidly as the team coppiced the trees and transported them by hand, to extend the hedge that the group had previously built (see picture above for completed hedge extension).

Coppicing woods can improve biodiversity and health by allowing more sunlight to reach the forest floor, which encourages a wider variety of plants to grow. Coppicing also creates a variety of habitats that support many species of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.
While the main party were engrossed in this, Ildi who had earlier mistaken her finger for a wooden stake, and given herself a nasty bruise, was busy ‘popping’ blackthorn and dogwood plants which are as welcome in the park as the dog pooh bags that are found in great numbers, sometimes empty but unfortunately, sometimes not!
After a hard morning’s work the team returned to the store and met the new PCSO Dominic, who happened to be passing and after a chat they then walked over to the Holly Blue where it was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy a well earned coffee.
