Working Party, January 2025

Having survived both the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the group returned refreshed and raring to start 2025, and to continue the good works it had undertaken in 2024.

As it turned out the first task was to continue a job started in the summer of 2024, to clear the existing ditch that runs along the top of the park.

The hope is that exposing the banks, by cutting back the brambles and clearing the moss, will result in making them more accessible for insects. The ultimate goal being that this will encourage solo bees to nest in the cleared banks and that butterflies and other insects will also be encouraged to flourish.

Although it was a cold but sunny afternoon, everybody kept warm by cutting and raking back the brambles and by all generally being as busy as, well you guessed it, Bees

Only time will tell if this work has had the desired effect, but there was a feeling of optimism in the crisp afternoon air as the team retired to the Holly Blue for a well-earned hot drink and to begin making plans for next month’s working party.

The question of a possible community/family litter pick was also discussed, this to take place over the February school half term to be held in conjunction with the Café in the Park (Look out for further details coming soon!).
