After postponing the litter pick the previous Tuesday, due to a forecast of rain and high winds, again the forecast was looking like it was against us in the morning for our second attempt! However, things were looking brighter from 2pm, so it was third time lucky.
Five ‘Wombles’ gathered in the park and with litter pickers at the ready, set off for the task in hand. Progressing along the hedgerow from the cafe, past Dashwood Manor and the Holly Blue. One team going along the roadside and the other fighting their way through the undergrowth on the inside of the park.
All manner of detritus was collected, including a broken umbrella, a good number of drink glasses, beer and wine bottles and cans a plenty. One wonders how so much rubbish doesn’t make it to a litter bin!
After about an hour and a half the team had achieved what they set out to do and returned to base for refreshments of home made cakes and mince pies (made by Andy’s wife Tracy) and hot drinks provided by Andy.
